4 years ago Heritage Theatre owner Gary McKenzie scooped a Mercury Durban Theatre Award in the category Music Revue Production for the King and Queen. Now after countless request to re-stage one of the most successful shows in the theatre’s seven years of operation, the show it is finally here and serves as a fitting tribute and celebration of their seventh birthday.
‘The King & Queen’ is a show that possesses all the ingredients required for a great “table banging” bash. With such great party songs such as “Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, and Teddy Bear from Elvis, you won’t be able to keep your feet still. Add to that the rousing crowd pleasers such as We Will Rock You, Killer Queen, Another One Bites The Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down, and We Are The Champions from Queen, will definitely have you “all shook up..”
With comical reference to the mischief of the British Royals, and featuring the greatest hits from two of the planets greatest artists show will have lots to sing and clap along to. They will also be joined on stage by assorted other “kings and queens” of the music industry.
As in the original staging, the show features the hilarious John Didlick (of Gee Jays fame) and his “drop-dead gorgeous” songbird son, Jonothan, as well as Durban actress and singer
Marion Loudon.
They are backed by Durban’s finest musicians, and Heritage regulars, Dawn Selby (keyboards), Barry Thomson (guitar), Mally Sewell (drums) and Jason Andrew (bass).
